ABOUT US
There is an undeniable magic to cooking and eating together. Cooking together not only lightens the load of cooking multiple dishes simultaneously, but food also just tastes better when prepared and enjoyed in a mindful, fun-loving atmosphere. Our older communities and cultures tapped into this secret when they came together regularly to prepare “big-day” celebratory feasts or family meals. The new offering by the Cape Malay Food Market – a group cooking experience – taps into this concept of making cooking and eating fun.
EVENTS
The best place to learn traditional Cape Malay cuisine is from a local in their home. The group cooking experience will be held in Zaida's home kitchen. The 3-4 hour group cooking experience includes a brief overview of Cape Malay Culture and Food, learning specialist cooking techniques and enjoying a sumptuous three course sit-down meal of traditional Cape Malay favourites. You will receive personal hands-on instruction.

REVIEWS

I attended one of Zaida's guided cooking experiences. Those words do not do it justice…. the loving use of herbs and spices, Zaida's infectious laugh, the warmth and open sharing and of course such delicious food which you just don't see much anymore. I can highly recommend this event and you get to take home a new recipe and some new friends.

Food, friendship and fun, were the main ingredients at the recently launched Cape Malay Food Market group cooking experience. Like a skilful conductor, Zaida gently guided her intrepid chefs to create a symphony of tastes......mmmmm grilled masala and coriander fish with fragrant cardamom rice; potato pudding with stewed dried fruit. The communal activity of cooking, cements social ties. Hence there's no doubt that the friendships forged through our group cooking will last long after the tastes have disappeared.

I loved the interaction of cooking with different people and also the techniques shown. One could not get all of this from following a recipe. Zaida you are a great hostess and your love for food and eagerness to pass down your generational knowledge is a treasure……I highly recommend this experience.
